The Baltimore County Council unanimously approved a ban on commercial house parties Monday night.
Mike Ertel, Baltimore County Council chairman, spoke with WBAL’s C4 and Bryan Nehman Tuesday morning. He spoke about the ban on commercial house parties.
“We’ve had a lot of situations where people are promoting parties, pop-up events, where people are renting out Airbnbs. Sometimes they just find somebody who will let them use their house and say, ‘Hey, I’ll give you a thousand bucks, because I’m gonna make eight-thousand,’” Ertel said.
Fines up to $5,000 could be imposed, with the legislation being drawn up after recent pop-up parties required mass police responses to break them up.
“You can’t park. You ask somebody, ‘Hey, can you, please, get off my lawn?’ and you get cursed-out, maybe threatened physically,” Ertel said. “The situation that prompted this, we basically emptied the Wilkins Precinct.”
